Meet The Faculty

Mark is an Associate Medical Director and the Lead Specialty Clinician for Anaesthetic Services at Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Trust. He has held leadership and management roles within healthcare for more than a decade, including leading a nationally influential charity during his training, undertaking a year in healthcare consultancy with KPMG, completing an MSc in Clinical Leadership and Management, contributing to NHS England’s perioperative transformation programme, and serving as an assessor for the GiRFT Elective Hub Accreditation process.

He brings extensive experience in change management across the NHS, with deep understanding of working within and alongside national bodies such as NHSE, DHSC, GMC and CQC. Mark also maintains strong research partnerships with local universities and has a proven track record of delivering successful service improvements while sustaining the personal, people‑focused approach that underpins the NHS

Lawrie is an NHS Consultant Anaesthetist, Clinical Product Lead at hybrid health SaaS company DrDoctor and passionate about introducing improvements and meaningful change in healthcare. With frontline NHS experience, he specialises in embedding innovation into clinical pathways and supporting novel technology tech companies navigate the UK market.

Lawrie has worked internationally across charity, commercial, and private sectors and this global perspective informs his passion for scalable, patient-centred care models.

Alongside clinical practice, he is an experienced Non-Executive Director and advisor, contributing to large-scale NHS digital transformation programmes and supporting early-stage MedTech and SaaS companies. His expertise spans clinical product leadership, digital innovation, and end-to-end pathway redesign, always with a focus on improving both patient outcomes and staff experience.

Lawrie also holds board positions in research and social enterprises and continues to advise organisations bringing new technologies into healthcare.

Dr Ekanjali Dhillon is a UK based physician and health innovation leader advising early stage health-tech ventures and venture capital teams on commercial strategy, clinical credibility, and scale. She sits on the board of a not-for-profit organisation supporting technology initiatives, and on the advisory board of a Health AI-focussed venture capital fund.

Alongside her advisory roles, Ekanjali had led digital transformation and care redesign programmes across large healthcare organisations, with a particular focus on technology enabled care. She brings a practical, operator led perspective on what it takes to translate clinically grounded innovation into viable scalable models.

Helen is a doctor with broad portfolio career in the NHS, publishing, public and non profit sectors over 25 years. She has a medical degree from Nottingham, and MSc in science communication from Imperial, and has undertaken leadership and management training at Hult Ashridge Business School. She is also an alumna of cohort 3 of the Academy of Medical Sciences' prestigious FLIER programme. She leads the development of BMJ Future Health's content strand and works as Editor-in-Chief of BMJ Innovations. She is an advisor and consultant who provides leadership and communications training, particularly to the health technology and academic sectors. She's passionate about bringing the patient's lived experience into all aspects of healthcare. and has a deep knowledge of medical research, innovation, online education, multimedia and healthcare events. She's an experienced leader of organisational change, particularly digital transformation and corporate strategy.

Dr Richard Tingay is a GP Partner and Primary Care Network Clinical Director with over twenty years’ experience across primary care, clinical leadership and governance. Richard has previously worked as a Medical Director for a large primary care provider organisation and as the Men’s Senior Team Doctor and Clinical Lead for England Rugby, where he led multidisciplinary teams in high-performance environments and worked closely with governing bodies and senior stakeholders. He is also a Teaching Fellow at the University of Bath and is currently undertaking an MBA in Clinical Leadership at the University of Birmingham.

Emergency Medicine Registrar | ICF ACC Executive Coach | Podcast Host

Shub is a UK Emergency Medicine registrar, an International Medical Graduate, and an ICF-accredited executive coach (ACC) who helps clinicians lead change with a practical, systems-based approach - grounded in human-centred leadership. He has worked with boards and senior leaders across academic and healthcare settings, bringing lived lessons from both successful and failed projects. Shub hosts the Clinician Founder Podcast and is a Non-Executive Director at Kliniken and co-founded Kliniken Consulting.

Dr David Hanna is a Consultant in Paediatric Emergency Medicine at Cardiff and Vale University Health Board, where he also serves as Clinical Director for Cardiology and Cardiothoracic Surgery. He trained in paediatric emergency medicine across Cardiff, Bristol, and Sydney, and completed a Welsh Clinical Leadership Fellowship developing primary care and hospital interface working. He brings extensive experience in clinical leadership to the iFLIGHT faculty.

I am an Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine Consultant with over 12 years clinical, leadership, research and project management experience working in the National Health Service. I have interests in point of care ultrasound, healthcare management and health-technology.

I am a Fellow of both the Royal College of Anaesthetists and the Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine. I have a particular interest in the use of health-technology and in particular its ability to improve fitness in the older adult and its potential to optimise patients for their treatment. As a result of this interest I am Co-Founder of PreActiv, a tech-for-good enterprise with a team of talented people who are passionate about improving the health and fitness in the older population, particularly in those who are underserved by technology. We want to enable people to take control of their own health in anticipation of major surgery or treatment by widening access to prehabilitation which focuses on physical, nutritional and mental preparation.

At PreActiv, we have created a completely digital, remote solution specific to prehabilitation, which is evidence-based and designed by doctors. PreActiv empowers users to improve their treatment outcomes as well as helping the NHS become more financially sustainable. Creating our own tech-for-good start-up is a way of achieving widespread and enduring change that can drive improvement in our society. I am passionate about growing an organisation that prioritises the wellbeing of not only its users but also its employees and are creating a work environment that is inclusive and fair for our team.

Dr Sean Elyan is a Consultant Clinical Oncologist at NHS Gloucestershire with over three decades of consultant practice. He qualified from Bristol University and completed oncology training at Cambridge, Manchester — where he undertook a research degree through the Paterson Institute — and the Royal Marsden Hospital. His clinical interests span breast cancer, CNS malignancies, upper GI cancer, and lymphomas. He has served as Medical Director and is Clinical Lead of the Gloucestershire Safety and Quality Improvement Academy (GSQIA), bringing exceptional depth of clinical, academic, and organisational leadership experience to the iFLIGHT faculty.

Rachel and Simon are the trainee organisers for iFLIGHT. Currently in the final stages of their specialty training and with a developing interest in leadership and management, they would describe themselves as being in the early stages of this journey — but actively seeking ways to develop this skillset and excited for the opportunities this course provides.

Their roles span both the practical and behind-the-scenes elements of the course: they have researched, curated and compiled the information and data packs used across the two days, giving delegates a coherent and well-structured set of resources to support their learning. Alongside this, they oversee the daily programme timings, coordinate the course dinner and manage the administrative essentials that underpin a high-quality delegate experience.

Dr. Rebecca Allam, an experienced haematologist with over a decade in patient care, identified a critical gap in prehabilitation - rehabilitation before surgery and cancer treatment - and its impact on patient outcomes. Recognising the potential of technology to address this issue, she founded PreActiv, offering dynamic, individualised prehabilitation programmes. As co-founder and CEO, Rebecca has successfully positioned PreActiv as a leader in the prehabilitation space, driving innovation and social impact. In 2023 Rebecca won the prestigious Women in Innovation award, cementing her role as a female leader in health tech. Passionate about breaking barriers for women in technology, she actively champions diversity and inclusion in the sector. Rebecca has also secured placements in highly competitive accelerator programs, such as NHS Innovation Accelerator, Digital Health London and Bethnal Green Ventures, further strengthening PreActiv’s reach and impact. With a unique blend of medical expertise and entrepreneurial vision, she continues to push the boundaries of digital health, transforming patient care and prehabilitation.
